A Place Beyond is an ongoing portrait of A House Called Zanzibar, a burgeoning rebirth of a legendary New Jersey House Music Party as it reemerges in Loas Angeles. This event is lead by a younger generation deeply connected to and informed by the lives of the party’s originators. The work considers the ways spaces are shaped by the relationships, histories, and intetions that occur within them.
As institutions, cultural spaces and other places of safety dwindle for Black and Queer communities, A Place Beyond documents a response that is intended to be a living balm. This project is an exploration of belonging shaped by repetition, committment, and persistence in times of recursive regression.
